The home offices of EventsGalore.net are now powered by the sun. Because we're concerned about the environment -- especially global warming -- we installed solar panels on our roof which generate 100% of our electricity.
Since May 1, about 600,000 Watt-hours of electricity have been generated from this system. That's the equivalent of 600 Watts on for 1000 hours. That's also 1200 pounds of CO2 spared from the environment.
Here's a detailed article.

Here are some really cool enhancements that I just added to EventsGalore.net.
Changes for everyone:
-
A surprising number of people search the web for events and land on an EventsGalore.net calendar. So we made it easy for them to e-mail an event to themselves or a friend. To try this, just click on "Tell a Friend" to the right of an event title. The complete text of the event will be e-mailed. You can add a personal note, too.
Changes for calendar managers:
I hope you enjoy these new features! Let me know either way; I'm always looking for feedback.

| EventsGalore.net Downtime Thursday, February 10 | [ Tell a Friend ] |
EventsGalore.net is moving to a new faster server! The move will take place on Thursday, February 10 from 4-5 p.m.
During this time, all calendars will be unavailable while we move data from the old server to the new server.
The new server has a new numeric address, but the same name: EventsGalore.net. There is nothing that you need to do to use this new address. Please be aware that it may take a few hours for the new address to propagate to your ISP. Thus, we will leave the old server up in read-only mode so that users looking for calendars will still be able to view them.
We've scheduled an hour for this move, but we may be done before then; we'll post a short note in the login box when we're finished.

Calendar managers... do you have a website? Would you like it to appear as if your EventsGalore.net calendar is an integral part of it? This is now easier for your webmaster to do. In particular, your navigation bars (and headers and footers) can be more easily integrated into your calendar, and you can use relative links. For details, go to EventsGalore.net and see "For Event Providers", then "How to integrate your EventsGalore.net calendar into your website", then click on "including your site's navigation bar", or go straight to http://www.EventsGalore.net/navigation.shtml .
The mini calendar (that we encourage calendar managers to put on their homepage) has improved. You can now choose where you want the date listed. For more details, see "For Event Providers", then "How to integrate your EventsGalore.net calendar into your website", or go straight to http://www.EventsGalore.net/integrate.shtml#mini .
And finally, calendar navigation has improved, lighting up functions and categories as a user moves their mouse over them.

EventsGalore.net will be down from 11 pm Saturday until 5 am Sunday. Our web hosting provider, Tilted Planet, is moving to a new datacenter which will result in greatly improved speed and stability.
During this time, all calendars will be unavailable.
The new location requires that EventsGalore.net receive a new numeric address. There is nothing that you need to do to use this new address.
However, it may take a few hours for the new address to propagate to your ISP. At the very most, it should take 24 hours for the new address to propagate around the world.

For calendar managers: Have you ever wanted an easy way to notify many people that you will be subscribing them to your calendar?
You can now do this (under "Reminders") by using
the "Notify" button; it will notify people of your intent
to subscribe them. This gives them the chance to opt out beforehand.
(The "Notify" button replaces the "Invite" button.)
There's more information in the online help related to subscribing others. You might also find this helpful: the first bit of the message to the users appears below the appropriate Notify/Subscribe/Unsubscribe button.
For everyone: Mini calendars that are displayed within another web page without a description now have links to the events! See the documentation under "For Event Providers" about website integration.

EventsGalore.net is moving to a new faster server! The move will take place on Thursday, February 6 from 4-5 PM.
During this time, all calendars will be unavailable while we move data from the old server to the new server.
The new server will have the same EventsGalore.net name as the old, but a new numeric address. There is nothing that you need to do to use this new address.
However, it may take a few hours for the new address to propagate to your ISP. Thus, we will leave the old server up in read-only mode so that users looking for calendars will still be able to view them. At the very most, it should take 24 hours for the new address to propagate around the world.
We've scheduled an hour for this move, but we may be done before then; we'll post a short note in the login box when we're finished.

Four new features were added to EventsGalore.net today: printer-friendly format, pull-down menu of calendars, displaying a mini calendar within another web page, and manual mailings were made optional.
- Several people asked for a printer-friendly format of their favorite calendar suitable for inclusion in newsletters or
just to post on the fridge.
Click on the "Printer-friendly format" link at the bottom of a calendar, and you'll see it with just
dates and events (no navigation bars, subscribe box, etc.).
- Curious about what other calendars are available? There aren't many yet, but all active calendars are now listed in a pull-down
menu on the EventsGalore.net home page. Whenever someone
creates a new calendar, it will be placed on the menu within half an hour.
- We're very excited to announce that you can now display a mini version of
your calendar within another web page,
commonly used to put calendars on home pages.
You can even control what information gets displayed in this version of a calendar.
For example, you can specify the number of events to display, the length
in days of this calendar, whether or not the full description is displayed, and more. See the documentation
under "For Event Providers" about website integration.
- Subscribers can now choose whether or not to receive manual e-mails sent by the calendar manager,
just like they can choose reminders by category. Under "Reminders", select or unselect the "Manual mailings" box.
In fact, subscribers can choose to receive only manual mailings (no reminders); just select only the
"Manual mailings" box.
Finally, we just wanted to share the good news that the EventsGalore.net® trademark
has been successfully registered with the US Patent and
Trademark Office.

| Four new features, and distributing EventsGalore.net announcements. | [ Tell a Friend ] |
Four new features were added to the EventsGalore.net service today:
- Context-sensitive help. Click on
"Help" from anywhere in a calendar, and you will get help
related to the function you are performing.
- New features when adding an event.
Do you have events where you don't want to list a duration
(like someone's birthday)? You can now do this by making
the duration 0 (for the hour and minute) and no
duration will be displayed.
Likewise, if you want to add an event with no start
time, select 0 for the start time and no
start time will be displayed.
- Improved past events format. If you are allowing people to view your past events,
you'll notice they are now listed most recent first. This is more intuitive than "oldest first".
- New "press release" mode. EventsGalore.net is good at upcoming events,
but now also has a "press release" mode for distributing
announcements. In this mode:
- Your calendar is dedicated to announcements.
- Viewers of your calendar will see all past announcements listed most recent first.
- Announcements will be delivered the morning after they are posted.
This is very handy for distributing press releases while also keeping them posted online!
Under the "Customize" function, see the viewable
length of your calendar setting (near the bottom) for more information.
EventsGalore.net will begin distributing announcements
about the EventsGalore.net service
to calendar managers (and anyone else who subscribes)
using the method above through this
announcements calendar.

A calendar manager can now invite others to subscribe to their calendar (see
"Reminders").
|
Tue, 2-Oct-2001 |

|
Sat, 25-Aug-2001 |
Calendar managers: to select any color (e.g. the background color), simply
use the "Customize" function to "Click here for some choices", and then click on a color. You used to have to type in the six digit hex number.

You've been able to browse calendars for the past month (actually, years), but as of today, you can now create your
own calendar!
|
Sun, 1-Jul-2001 |
After years of part-time development, EventsGalore.net is
on the air!
Stay tuned for when you can create your own calendar (should be around August 1), but until then, browse
the few calendars that we have on-line.
